Game Notes: Into the Breach

A strategy + puzzle game themed around mechs.
You pilot a mech to wipe out giant insect-like creatures attacking Earth.
What makes this game truly great is how it makes you think, "Am I a genius?"
---
You control three allied mechs, each with its own specialty.
Some deal damage, some push/pull enemies, some protect allies, etc...
The combat is turn-based, letting you carefully plan your next move like in chess.
You can even see what the enemies will do next in advance.
For example, enemy A is targeting a building full of civilians with a beam attack.
Another enemy, B, is about to unleash a high-damage attack on your ally.
Do you save the building, or your ally...?
A desperate situation where you have to give up one or the other!
But if you think it through, sometimes you can arrive at "the answer."
"Just knock enemy B into enemy A's beam!"
That way, you protect both the building and your ally, and even make the enemies destroy themselves.
And that's when you think:
"Am I a genius?"
"Am I some kind of master tactician?!"
At least, that's how I felt.
That feeling is incredibly satisfying.
It's a kind of experience that only works because of an almost miraculous balance.

I played this game about five years ago, but every now and then I suddenly feel like playing it again.
Games like that are rare, and I really love them.
